DOTHAN, Ala (WDHN) — A Dothan critic and home cook won big Thursday night on one of Food Network’s top competitive cooking shows, Outchef’d.

Chelsea Gieselmann, known to many as the blogger of Southrngritskitchen, appeared on season 3, episode 2, entitled “Seafood Smackdown”.

During the episode, Gieselmann went head-to-head with Iron Chef Alex Guarnaschelli. Each chef was given 45 minutes to make a dish using seafood.

Gieselmann used her signature “southern flare” to battle the New York chef and whipped up a loaded cajun shrimp and crab grits dish with a cajun cream sauce.

After winning the episode, the Wicksburg native was awarded a $7,000 prize by host Food Network host Eddie Jackson. She won $5,000 after one judge chose her dish over Guarnaschelli and then won $2,000 after two other judges chose her dish.

Gieselmann says she hopes this opportunity will garner nationwide attention for her hometown, Wicksburg, and the region she has called home her entire life.

With the prize money, Gieselmann said on the show that she wants to invest it into a food truck.
