You know Selena Gomez loves to experiment in the kitchen based on her series Selena + Chef—and now with Food Network, the singer’s new show Selena + Restaurant will see her testing her culinary skills not in the comfort of her home but in restaurant kitchens.
After four seasons of Selena + Chef, which entails Gomez inviting chefs over (often virtually) to help her with new recipes and cooking techniques, it’s not surprising she’s joining the Food Network cohort with this revamped concept. And she plans to take her culinary adventures to the next level.
Viewers will watch Gomez visit six different restaurants and attempt to create a dish delicious enough to have it added to the official menu. Experienced chefs from each spot will guide her in learning the restaurant’s menu (and some new cooking tricks) before she has the opportunity to have one of her own recipes featured.
“After cooking mostly virtually from my kitchen with some of the best chefs for the last four years, I was thrilled to step into their world,” Gomez said in a Food Network announcement. “You’ll have to see if being in person helped my skills at all.”
Joined by friend Raquelle Stevens, Gomez will first visit Chef Wolfgang Puck in the debut episode, where she’ll master one of his classic dishes before making her take on a spicy seafood dish. Then she heads to Los Angeles to make dumplings at restaurant Ms Chi.
Each episode stars a different restaurant and chef as Gomez hones her culinary skills: Excursions include Hollywood hotspot Lemon Grove with Chef Marcel Vigneron; Texas BBQ at Moo’s Craft Barbecue with Andrew and Michelle Munoz; a visit with Chef Stephanie Izard at her restaurant Girl & the Goat, and a stop at California soul food restaurant, Alta, with Chef Keith Corbin.
“Selena’s culinary journey has riveted viewers from day one as she has elevated her kitchen skills on her Emmy-nominated series, Selena + Chef,” said Betsy Ayala, head of content and food at Warner Bros. Discovery, in a statement. “Now, out of the comfort of her home kitchen, but with her best friend for support, Selena’s graduation to the big leagues offers a natural progression of her culinary education as this superstar shows what she can do in a restaurant environment.”
The series premieres on May 2, featuring back-to-back episodes airing at 7:00/6:00 p.m. CT. You can also stream it on Max. For more information about the show and to get some sneak peeks of the episodes, follow Food Network on social media and join the hashtag #SelenaAndRestaurant.
